What are quadratic equations?
Show answer
A quadratic ax2+bx+c=0ax^2 + bx + c = 0 can be solved three ways. Factorising finds two numbers multiplying to acac and adding to bb. Completing the square writes it as a(x+p)2+qa(x + p)^2 + q, which also gives the turning point. The quadratic formula $x=b±b24ac2ax = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}$ always works.
What is q1?
Show answer
Simplify 72+8\sqrt{72} + \sqrt{8}. [2 marks]
What is q2?
Show answer
Solve 2x27x+3=02x^2 - 7x + 3 = 0 by factorising. [2 marks]
What is q3?
Show answer
Find the set of values of xx for which x24x50x^2 - 4x - 5 \le 0. [3 marks]
