UCAS points calculator
Add your A-Levels, AS-Levels, Scottish Highers, Advanced Highers and EPQ to total your UCAS Tariff points using the official tables. Exact, no signup.
Your qualifications
Add each qualification and the grade you have or expect. UCAS Tariff points are fixed per grade, so the total is exact.
| Qualification | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|
| A-Level | A | 48 |
| A-Level | A | 48 |
| A-Level | B | 40 |
UCAS Tariff points for 2024 entry onwards. Universities set their own entry requirements and many quote grades rather than points. For the official tariff, refer to UCAS.
How the UCAS Tariff works
The UCAS Tariff converts your qualifications into a single points total so universities can compare applicants holding different qualifications. Each grade is worth a fixed number of points, and you add them up across everything you are studying.
The tariff values this calculator uses (2024 entry onwards):
- A-Level: A* = 56, A = 48, B = 40, C = 32, D = 24, E = 16
- AS-Level: A = 20, B = 16, C = 12, D = 10, E = 6
- Scottish Higher: A = 33, B = 27, C = 21, D = 15
- Scottish Advanced Higher: A = 56, B = 48, C = 40, D = 32
- EPQ: A* = 28, A = 24, B = 20, C = 16, D = 12, E = 8
What this calculator is not
This totals the UCAS Tariff for the qualifications above. It does not include every qualification (BTEC, IB, T-Levels and others have their own tariff values), and a points total never replaces a course's specific entry requirements. For the complete tariff and official guidance, refer to UCAS.
Common questions
- How are UCAS Tariff points calculated?
- Each qualification grade is worth a fixed number of UCAS Tariff points. An A-Level is worth A*=56, A=48, B=40, C=32, D=24, E=16. You add the points for every qualification you are taking to get your total. This calculator does that for A-Levels, AS-Levels, Scottish Highers, Advanced Highers and the EPQ.
- How many UCAS points is AAB at A-Level?
- AAB at A-Level is 136 UCAS Tariff points (48 + 48 + 40). AAA is 144 points and A*A*A* is 168 points.
- Do universities use UCAS points or grades?
- Both. Many courses state offers in grades (for example AAB), while others, especially at some universities and for some subjects, use a UCAS Tariff points total. Always check the specific entry requirements for each course on the university or UCAS website.
- Does an EPQ count towards UCAS points?
- Yes. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) carries UCAS Tariff points (A*=28, A=24, B=20, C=16, D=12, E=8) and many universities make alternative offers that recognise a strong EPQ.
- Is this UCAS calculator official?
- No. It is a free tool from ExamExplained using the published UCAS Tariff tables for 2024 entry onwards. The points are exact for the qualifications shown, but for official entry requirements and the full tariff (including BTEC and other qualifications) refer to UCAS.
