Performance has simply become a good deal more expensive and difficult than expected

One party has changed their mind and no longer wishes to be bound by the agreement

A minor term, or warranty, of the contract has been breached by one of the parties

An unforeseen event makes performance impossible, illegal or radically different

To put the claimant in the position they would have been in had the contract been performed

To punish the party in breach and to deter others from breaking similar contracts in future

To return any deposit paid and to restore both parties to their pre-contractual positions

To compensate the defendant in breach for the legal costs they incurred defending the claim

Absolutely all losses that can in any way at all be shown to have been caused by the defendant's breach of contract

Losses that neither arise naturally from the breach nor were within the reasonable contemplation of the parties
